Answer: Not necessarily so. An electronic keyboard is an acceptable substitutle until a full committement has been made to pursue the piano.
Question: What type of keyboard and with what specifcations should my keyboard have if I purchase a keyboard instead of a piano?
Answer: Preferably, if you are going to use a keyboard instead of a piano, then the keyboard should have 88 full size weighted keys. All the bells and whistles aren’t really needed.
Question: What is the average cost of such a keyboard, and where can I purchase one?
Answer: A keyboard with 88 full size weighted keys starts at around $500.00 and goes up from there. There are several online music stores that offer such keyboards. Many of them offer free shipping as well. Also be advised that you should try and get a keyboard with built in speakers. Otherwise you will need to purchase an amp and at least one speaker. Many of the aforementioned keyboards come with built in speakers which from a price point of few is preferable.
